i have noticed that a lot of computers that i see are mac. i don't take notice to too many pc's other than that i really have noticed
In Bloodwork (Clint Eastwood), there's a material witness to a crime who's some sort of web/software developer; when Eastwood goes to question him about the case, you can see all sorts of Linux stuff (software, books, etc.) on a shelf in the background. From memory, I think it was mostly Redhat software and O'Reilly books. He had more of a Windows attitude though!:D
On the WB show "Birds of Prey" that was on the first half of this season (before getting cancelled), Barbara Gordon had a crapload of computer equipment which occasionally seemed to be displaying lots of terminal windows and stuff. She seemed like a Linux type. But I have no evidence of this...
Seems like most of the time when they show computers on movies and TV, they deliberately dumb them down and give them big honkin' fonts and cutesy animations. Maybe everyone uses AOL?
Oh yeah, on The Lone Gunmen, there's a scene where Langley shows off his mad hax0ring skills, which looked like it was on a Linux box (but also kind of looked like a Mac)
I saw one episode of The Lone Gunmen where an intelligent monkey downloads a text to speech program to comunicate. It went something like, "He's typing giberish" "That's not gibberish, that's Linux!" but these people don't seem like average windows users anyway.
All the computers in Anti-Trust seem to run Gnome.
And Sherk was completely make in a Linux.
Speaking of Antitrust, in one scene whilst Milo (Ryan Phillipe) is looking through some video footage, there is a shot of a guy wearing a Red bowler cap with a black trim. It is just like Red Hat's logo...

In the opening episode of "The Chapelle Show," they have a spoof training video for some copy center and they say if a customer comes in with a PC floppy and wants something printed from it, to say it's Mac, and vice versa. Then they say if the person has both, say the machine runs Linux. And if they have that, say the system is down.
i'm not positive, but I thought I saw linux being used on "Alias" It was the episode where Marshall was kidnapped and was being forced to write a computer code. they showed his computer screen briefly. it appeared to have a linux terminal open.
There is an episode of Crank Yankers where Special Ed calls tech support and there is a Linux Inside logo on the back wall. I was surprised to see that.
They use a lot of fake operating systems, especially in "hacker" movies, in which they always seem to type things like "connect ggCorporation" and then the guy at the console shouts "I'm in!" :|
here is the pic of the Anti-Trust / Red Hat 'coincidence'. i paused the movie and rewound it, everyone else in the room was like 'what the hell'. couldn't wait to post it here but someone already beat me to it. takes place at about 53 minutes into the movie.
Cool Pic!
I guess this isn't really related to linux, but did anyone else catch the ssh flaw they used in the new Matrix? I thought it was pretty cool.
KDE shows up a few times too. This doesn't mean it's Linux.Quote:

I think you mean Shrek. The rendering engines yes. And Linux only helped.Quote:

With its last hit, "Shrek," DreamWorks used Linux servers to help "render" each frame, the brute-force job of creating detailed images from skeletal outlines, said Ed Leonard, DreamWorks' chief technology officer. But the brainier animation work took place on dozens of SGI computers running its version of Unix, called Irix.
One more thing. Linux was running on HPs.
Actually, Red Hat used to give those away when you registered your retail box copy.Quote:

Obviously fake operating systems/environments running on mystery hardware. They're always graphical, and always looks like a dumbed-down Mac, Nextstep and BeOS comboQuote:

That article was cool, thanks El_Cu_Guy :)
