I prefer Firebird. I loved tabbed browsing!!!
obviously you won't get internet explorer..
mozilla and opera are the two biggest..
opera has a pay-for-me version that does not have any built in ads, but the free one does..
mozilla is the successor to netscape, and is a very good, featured package like netscape communicator
mozilla firebird is a browser only, and is faster that mozilla (as in it starts faster, and responds quicker to commands), its also smaller, which is an added bonus
all three have large followings, and if you have trouble with any of them, there will be someone who can help.
firebird seems to be the most commonly used one now, as apparently most people used original mozilla, and have now migrated to firebird...
personally i prefer firebird.. but its all down to personal preference..
[edit]
oh yeah.. the websites are:
mozilla.org (firebird and original)
opera.com

-Konqueror integrated with kmail. Great that you can split the screen, surf the web on one side and acccess your hard drive on the other side.
-Mozilla with it's multiple account support, and widespread plugin availability
-Opera for it's speed and general user friendliess, not crazy about their email client, but it will get better.
all get my vote. I use all three. :D
Will have to try firebird sometime.

Konqueror, Mozilla, Opera: in no particular order; depends on what's handiest at the moment. Netscape as a last resort (it's soooo00000 slow). I've heard folks praise other browsers, but I figure, since mine do the job for me, why bother with others without some compelling reason. (Of course, if the itch to try something new comes along, I still have that option, at much less expense, than the windo$e environment offerings).
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Galeon yet!
It's based on Mozilla and Gnome and has tabbed browsing and mouse gestures. Definately the way forward.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the text browsers yet.
Actually, I'm posting this from w3m right now, because firebird had some wierdness in it,
and I don't feel like tracking down what's going on and fixing it.
FYI: The fonts got big and kept getting bigger, so I killed it, and opened a term window,
and started w3m to make this post. :)
Yeah. w3m is my favoriteest text browser. I also have links-ssl on here.
There's also lynx.
Another good thing about having a text browser is that they are handy for when you have man
pages that are in html format. It's quicker to open them in a text browser than in a graphical
one.
My 2 cents.
I personally like firefox myself. Its easy to download and configure.
I personally like Netscape the best.
firebird firebird firebird!
Firebird has my vote! i also agree with knute, w3m is a nice txt browser :)
Another vote for Mozilla Firebird.
I haven't used any text browser so I thought of tryinga nd learning them as I guess they must be faster if I work from home on a dialup.
So is w3m is the best?
What most people do recommend?

Text browsers are small so why not install and try all of them?Quote:

Mozilla Firebird is the way to go... awesome skins ;)
firebird has seemed a little bloated to me lately, i recently have started using epiphany, i like it's daemon feature, it greatly improves program loading time
I mainly use Mozilla in Linux, occasionally Konqueror, or Opera. Both are good in their own right, but I prefer Mozilla.
I think the best is Mozilla. I like its philosophy and how it works. And the tabbed browsing is something maravellous.
I'm with you on this Dizzybacon - for speed, ease of use, and useful features, Galeon's the best browser I've tried.
Firebird's not far behind though.
Let's see....
Don't like Netscape, used to like Opera but don't anymore.
In order of preference:
Konqueror
Mozilla
Galeon
Lynx
XBrowser
Nautilus
I'll give w3m a try.
Love Mozilla Firebird because:
- tab browsing
- Google search toolbar
- fast and simple
and Konqueror because:
- tab browsing
- split windows
- already open when I'm browsing my harddrive and want to go to the web.

I have been using Firebird since .5 release, but as mm-sources stated, it has seemed a bit bloated as of late. May have to try out epiphany.
I used mozilla since 1.0rc1
I have recently installed firebird and I use both regularly.
I tried Galeon and really liked it, in fact if it wasn't for some sily bugs annoying me it would be my browser of choice (It won't save some of my preferences to do with tab behaviour mainly, RH9 default Galeon which shipped with it) I should get the latest version but Mozilla and Firebird are working fine so never saw a need.
I cant STAND Konqueror for web browsing, phrases the pages all wrong.
Personaly I love firebird, I use it on both windows and linux. I love tabbed browsers, I couldnt live without them (or atleast use my pc :p ), but there is something that I dont like to much about it but its better than most other browsers out there so I use it.
I primarily like firebird the best but it has some issues. The only other browser I have on my machine is konqueror which I would probably like a lot better if it did a half-decent job of stopping pop-ups. Split screen is great though!
I used to run mozilla in Mandrake but it was way too bloated and slow IMHO.
Firebird. It really is a must try. Best browser I have used in a long time period. I use thunderbird for email.
I usually just use whatever is the default for the distro. but when I have to choose I install glinks. (Its a text browser with graphics support for X. kind of a hybrid)
Started using the new Moz build 1.6 (final) and I'll have to say I like it. Been running it for almost two weeks now and not a glitch one. Still waiting for an xft build though. I dont care what others say....I still like the intergrated mail client.
I personally use Mozilla and Mozilla Firebird. I love both of these browsers because of the tabbed browsing, excellent cookie management, and image managment. I like firebird better because it loads faster, and has the google searchbar. As an added bonus, mozilla is not suseptible to false location bar addresses, unlike some inferior products.
Worth noting that the recently released version of Konqueror has some good improvements, particularly in usability. Tabbed browsing isn't tacked on anymore, and the context menus have been shaved down quite a bit. A number of rendering issues have been resolved, too. Foxfire (the new name of Phoenix) is excellent, but with the new updates to Konqueror and its excellent integration with the rest of KDE, it's become my default.
When working on a GNOME box, though, Epiphany is a beautiful thing!
Opera for general use, as it's much faster than firefox on my system, and has most of the useful features I need.
Firefox for viewing anythign with embedded video content - just can't get that to work with Opera.
I've yet to find a linux browser that correctly identifies html pages iwth irregular extensions, the way IE does. That's the only positive point about IE though ;)
I have tried Redhat since version 6.0 all the way up to 9.0 none of them has ever given me the ease of installation and help that "MANDRAKE" did.
Mandake has been a breeze to install and to keep up to date. A few clicks of the mouse and it goes and gets the latest updates for what ever files I need. :p
http://mandrakeuser.cjb.net/
So of all the distro's that I have tried Mandrake gets my vote! :D
lol it won't be called mandrake soon...
Mandrake looses name
Trust the yanks to always litigate every-thing to death, goodwill and all:)
Whatever name it's rebranded as, as far as I am concerned it will still be Mandrake !:D
So I will continue to use it.
Thanks very much for the link and info.
I agree completely, and even though I've moved on from Mandrake, it'll always be known as Mandrake to me. Even if it becomes Firedrake or Foxdrake :DQuote:

I think you meant to say "Trust the yanks to protect intellectual and trademark property rights". When you take without asking, there are to be expected some reprecussions. It's not re-branded if you will finish the article it says the action was suspended.
What I meant was, when "Mandrake" is rerelease under whatever name I will still continue to use it:DQuote:

The European unoin is trying to patent all sorts of things, some of which as far as I am concerned is against the spirit of Linux.
I trust that this now sets my comment in the correct context.
P.S. Look at the fight between Lindows and Windows!
:D

Well if thats what you meant why not just edit your post to reflect that?
I prefer Konqueror and Mozilla or a Mozilla based browser (Firebird/Firefox)
Some things got to be built on tradition. I prefer Netscape 7.1.
