You might want to check out AIGLX (the Built-in 3D X-Server in Xorg 7.1).
Or is there a particular reason you want XGL?

The oldest computer I ever ran Linux on was an old Gateway with a 333MHZ PII with 64MB of RAM, with a 10GB Hard Drive. Too bad the computer broke. :( I think I had Slackware on it.
