I don't really have any useful input for this post, but I do live in Houston (Sugar Land, actually). Does that qualify?

Bummer on the RH dependancy. Since it's for a business, check this out. http://www.novell.com/products/zenworks/linuxmanagement/
It's actually a really good product, and it's based off the Red...

If this is for a business, then you may want to look at Novell's Zenworks Linux Management. It allows you to patch/update both Red Hat and SUSE boxes through a web based console. If you're asking for...

oh, and xkill works well, too.

When all else fails... ps -ax | grep more
Find the process ID for YaST... then kill -KILL <YaST PID>

Try Banshee. Not only can you use it as a music player, but you can also move files to your iPod. I have a shuffle, and it works great for it.

I have a handfull of Qlogic HBAs a few servers, and a bunch of disk space. Does anyone know of a projcet that will allow me to set up a Linux server and export the disks for use over fiber channel? I...

I have installed SUSE 9.3 Pro multiple times, and the prompt for the root password comes up right before you configure your network cards/modems/isdn/etc. Just to be sure... This isn't a live CD, is...

The software is not time-bombed to quit after a certain date. Those DVDs and ISOs that are referenced on the download page should be full blown installation media. Worst case scenario... you spend $1...

Bear in mind, this is not the product Novell is targeting for enterprise desktops... That's what NLD is for. This is geared towards enthusiasts, and tends to have everything including the kitchen...

The FTP version of SUSE 9.2 will be available on the 10th. I've been running it for over a month, and I love it.

Sounds like Ubuntu didn't set up your graphics card correctly. What kind of card and monitor do you have?
In regards to SUSE, you should try at least SUSE 9.1. You should be able to get it here....

Sent you a PM. I'm on AIM if you have time to chat.

Do you have an IM client of some kind? If you do, send me a PM with your info.

Sorry for the lack of reponse. I was on my way home from work. What happens if you run "smbclient -L localhost" on your Linux server?

You should be okay to open tcp and udp for each port.
137:tcp
137:udp
138:tcp
138:udp
...
if you look at /etc/services ("less /etc/services"), you can look for what port 137 is used for....

I honestly don't know what the syntax is, but that looks like a good start. I searched google.com/linux for samba +ports, and there were articles that listed ports 137-139 as samba ports.

I don't run Fedora on my box, but I believe system-config-services will let you set which services start at boot time. Don't know what to tell you about why chkconfig isn't there, but you may want to...

system-config-securitylevel should allow you to open up a port for SMB. Looks like Samba runs on ports 137-139.

First thing I would suggest is try using the command "su -" to change to root. If you don't us the hyphen, then it won't assume root's path, and thus can't find the commands ifconfig and service. If...

I found one option (www.mysqlstat.org/en), and was referred to another (www.cacti.net). mysqlstat is specifically for monitoring mysql, but cacti can monitor tons of devices and OS statistics. A...

Does anyone know of a GUI tool similar to mtop that I can use to monitor a MySQL server? I would like to have something that generates a line graph of queries/sec., and other interesting information....
-
Doesn't help much if you aren't running SUSE, but 9.1 and 9.2 Pro both will allow you to download drivers and set up the 650+. When you run YaST Online Update, there is an option to downlad the...

They just released their desktop product yesterday, and you can download a trial from their website. I've played with the betas a bit, and am more impressed with their desktop than I was Red Hat's....
