interesting statement. as far as i can remember any version of windows on the Dos line (3.1->winME) didnt even cover user groups, and the one user would have complete access to everything. Yes there...
-
lol, it would probably be the greatest place on earth to work.
You: I'v just found a few more bugs in this module, and the cause of a few large memory leakes. You need me to stay late to get it...

i really dont quite know quite what to think about this.
Lets just say that, chances are Linux is definitely not for you. Infact, windows isnt for you either, but your going to use it anyway...

im not too sure on this one, it depends on the circumstances.
If there was a bigger pay check from M$ (which is doubtful anyhow) then id be tempted. although i would definitely be willing to take...

well why not? you may as well run whatever you find easiest to remember. I dont see how it makes any difference.
As for the hostility, i never noticed it on these forums before. Then i went away...

30k posts, thats sheer madness :)
well done anyway boss :)
as for stories of how he has helped me, i remember him locking the first ever topic i made on these forums, and thats about it ;)

Linux itself is free, and the Linux source code is always available (once you have installed Linux, you have access to its source code, so you can make any changes you like)
There is nothing...

ooo im not so sure about that one. To be honest i have never considered the idea that M$ could release their own Linux distro, and use it to become the most powerful Linux distro.
The thing is, i...

thats what im thinking lol :)
i have ran a few different distributions of Linux, and only very recently changed to Gentoo. I love it so far :) Portage really is a wonderful wonderful thing ;)
-
well my test didnt go so well, it hardly works at all :P
never mind, but i do like what i saw on the website :)
if they could get a lot of that put together, it really could serve Linux well :)...

i think i might download this and test it :)
i hope they dont get sued over it, but chances are they will ><
its a really good idea though, and would allow people to convert to Linux very...

different people have different preferences, same with windows.
although, normally those screenshots are just demonstrating different applications they use or showing off other themes, but dont...

i think thats actually a very very good point. Most of us know that SCO wont win this case anyway, and it wouldnt be all that damaging if they did (to Linux i mean). But if IBM were truely worried...
-
nothing im going to add to that. Situations change, and even if SCO were to win (which is highly unlikely) it wont really even cause any problems for Linux.
SCO will go bankrupt soon enough...
-
ah i see :) Linux never has any major problem with viruses. i know someone who whenever he receives a virus just runs it over and over again, because he knows it cant damage his system. I think he...

ok, i downloaded and installed Firebird earlier on today (im using it now actually, quite like it) and i think i know what the problem is.
for the download instructions, it tells you to run...

windows is free right now for a lot of people, but for many its not. For those who buy their PCs from a large retailer like PC world, they are paying for windows whilst thinking its free with the PC....

iv often wondered how difficult it would be to almost develop a split desktop, one for the average user and another for the developer.
Maybe Linux does just need one distribution and one desktop...

havent tried JEdit before, but by its name i get the feeling it wont help me much in easily creating Graphical Apps.
im happy enough using vi for little scripts or writing short pieces of code,...
-
normally i dont post very often, and can usually find out what i want to know via the search option, but, strangely, i didnt get any links about this.
just asking what the better IDE's are for...

to quote you again
i think thats exactly right. Iv only just started writing scripts in Perl, so i didnt have a very good background. The above quote is correct though, you need semi colons to...
-
i take it you tried entering '10' when using the perl script?
isnt Perl interpreted line by line? so if you dont test every branch of the program, you may never hit these errors :)
then again,...
-
Jock, your missing a semi colon at the end of that line ;)

its being naive if you think anything connected to the internet can be truely secure. Anything can be hacked (unless its in a lead box at the bottom of the atlantic)
Palladium wont be bypassed by...

umm, a good few million 'take us guys seriously', but thats not the point
im still to find many good independant pro M$ articles, and most say the exact same thing. I can only repeat what iv...
