Check that amount of space available in each partition now, see which seems to be running out of room... with me it's usually the /home partition that is never quite big enough...

Instead of making 1 partition, why not use the 2 drives seperately? use the 40GB as hte root partition (/) and use the 20GB as Home (/home) - you won't even know the difference, unless you have to...

you might want to try just knoppix, rather than knoppix-std.. the std version is more security oriented whereas the regular knoppix distro is more complete as far as apps on the CD
