Doesn't ubuntu have memtest on the live cd? For sensors you can installand configure lm-sensors. Then an app like gkrellm or even superkaramba will do

What chipset is that? If it is the nforce 5 then I couldn't get it to work either. I even updated to the latest sensors-detect, still can't get it to work. I think it only supports up to nforce 4.

You're welcome. You can acpi to off in the MCC- Boot - set up how the system boots, and un ticking the enable acpi. Remember to save it though.;)

Can you do a media check? Did you compare the md5 checksums? Maybe a bad burn or corrupt d/l. Try burning at a lower speed.
