If you're a college student or have a college nearby, you might want to check and see if the school has any machines it wants or needs to get rid of. I happened to get lucky and found out that our CS...

You're right. mkswap is used for swap.

PROBLEM SOLVED
This is an old ISA card that uses ISA shared memory. The BIOS didn't have ISA shared memory turned on. Oops! The card is specifcaly a Western Digital 8013 with SMC chips.
Turns...

Yea, I tried power cycling the Pentum, but it still does not work. I've been able to disconnect and reconnect various other machines before without a problem, so I don't realy think that's where the...

I did both, but the behavior is still the same. I'm thinking that this means that the network card in the Pentium 60 just might be kaput.
-
Yes. This occours when accepting everything and denying nothing.

I've run into a most interesting problem that I have been unable to solve. I've set up a home network on a 10/100 switch. I have two linux boxes, a Pentium 60 and a Dual Athlon. The athlon has a...

Ok ... impractical, but fun!

I would use a fat32 partition as a share. Don't you think that when the linux kernel programmers say, "don't write to ntfs - it can screw stuff up", they know what they are talking about? :)
-
The "best" cards as far as performance and reliablity are concerned are probably (so I've heard) 3com and Intel EEpro cards.
-
If on the same box, make a "shared" vfat partition so you can share info whilst in windows or linux.
-
Indeed, bash checks and sees if it was invoked as "sh". If it was, it uses an sh "compatablity mode" - this was done to bash so it would be backwards compatable when needed.

Put the numbers in the same stack as the operators.

I couldn't agree with this more. You should learn shell scripting.

I do this quite often. I use PERL for text processing stuff, shell for system stuff, and C / C++ for most other stuff. Just have them
a) call one another
or
b) pass information between one another...

You might want to look into NFS (Network File System) and NIS (lets you share config info across multiple systems).

What is the partition scheme of the disk the fallback is booting off of?

What kind of motherboard do you have? Processor?
Try disabling DRI, I don't think NVidia cards should use it.
-
You should be aware that on some motherboards, AGP is "supposed" to go at 4x, however, because of problems with the hardware, it is unstable at anything greater then 2x. What kind of motherboard is...

Pros: You have (nearly) complete control.
Cons: You have (nearly) complete control.
I say nearly because there are some things both do automaticaly. I do like gentoo a lot, but I often find...

You might want to try passing this parameter to your kernel at boot:
mem=nopentium
The Athlon has a problem with AGP cards, and without boring you to tears, this is how to fix it.

>> How do I mount a new drive as /home
mount device_name mount_point
(i.e. mount /dev/hda2 /home) You'll need to know the name of the drive, of course. :)

Try completly turning off the box. The cards should but many times, manufacturers will not implement things correctly.
I'm sorry to say this and I hope you don't have this problem, but I've seen...

Why not have g++ produce assembly output, then we can ACTUALY figure out what's going on ...
-
Supposing that's the problem, it may not fix it, since it will still try to read a double before converting it into a float.
