Both give same paths and files, just the numbers in parenthesis are different (not sure what they mean, manpage doesn't seem to say):
$ ldd /usr/bin/fglrxinfo
linux-gate.so.1 => ...

As I said in the post, that was what I tried first, the group thing was just a try from the linked howto, but neither works.
Modes got detected correcly for my monitor without specifying them, so...

Hello,
I have successfully installed the ATI fglrx drivers on Debian Sid, but for some reason, direct rendering only works for root:
$ fglrxinfo

That wallpaper rules! :) Care to share it? In case you had more like this, post them all please.

I don't think it's a hardware issue. Similar things are happening to me. You may remember my "fglrx hell" thread, still haven't found a solution to the console swithing problem. But I noticed that if...

I guess the easiest way to install mplayer in Debian is to use some third-party packages, like those from here: http://debian.video.free.fr/ Haven't had any problems with them so far.

That works great! Thanks a lot.

Your code seems to output 0 every time, even when azureus is running.
But never mind, I'll just start azureus directly every hour or so, since it terminates itself right away if another instance...

I want to make a bash script and run it in cron for a week while I'm gone, it should check if azureus is running and if it is not, start it. I have this so far:
#!/bin/bash

Sigh, still no luck even with the new kernel. dmesg is now clean even after freeze:
lp0: using parport0 (interrupt-driven).

I don't quite agree with that. I used windows for a long time, practically since 95 version, and I don't think I would learn linux (or rather adapt to linux) any easier if I only used windows only...

So you think the soundcard driver is the cause of the problem?
It is compiled as a module, and as I said before I also tried terminal switching with the module unloaded, I guess it shouldn't be able...

This is not a laptop. Distribution is in the fist post, it is Debian Sid (upgraded from Woody).
So I tried to boot the kernel with apm=off acpi=on, and also apm=off acpi=force, still no luck with...

I got 83. But at least I didn't end up like these people (some of you may have already seen it, I advise not to eat or drink while watching :)):...

Thanks for the replies.
I am using the latest ATI drivers from their website.
I ran dmesg from ssh after making X freeze, these are few last lines from the output:
lp0: using parport0...

Hello again,
I've been unsuccessfully trying to get my graphics card working with linux for a few months now. It is ASUS A9550 GE, which uses ATI Radeon 9550 GPU, and should work with the ATI...

It didn't install at all, or it just doesn't autostart?
Try stopping X, and run kdm from terminal.

To allow normal users browse the partition, mount it like this:
mount -t ntfs -o umask=0 /dev/hdb1 /mnt/E
-o umask=0 is the important part. An /etc/fstab entry to automount the partition would look...

I'm pretty sure you can change this somewhere in the mandrake control panel - networking setup.

As far as I know, generally small programs may not need make, or even ./configure.
Fritz_Monroe: From what is in your profile, you are running a Debian based distro, do you know that you can get...

I resized my root partition from knoppix live CD - very useful thing, and you'll get a lot more than just parted with it.

In the virtual machine cdrom options, try setting legacy emulation on (or off). Also make sure you are using the correct device there.
