Wow! They all worked! Thank you guys very much.

When i'm running in runlevel 3, how am I supposed to turn the machine off? Is it ok to just turn it off by holding the power switch or is there a command to power down?
I've tried 'exit' but that...

Oops! :D Mods, delete that repost at your will.

Hi,
Thank you for the information. I changed my inittab to level 3 and I love it. I don't know why i didn't think of that... :D

I got my game server to run just fine and i'm now able to run it in my username so no more leaving it in root overnight. :)
My next issue is ram being taken up. I want to leave KDE(x) and go into...

Nvm. Got it. Switching back to Suse 9.0 pro seemed to do the trick. I guess i'm staying with Suse. :D

I didn't try the magnet one but re-installing Suse and formatting all partitions seemed to work. Man, did I mention i'm not going to use any "not so popular" distros anymore? :D

Hi,
How do I completely format my harddrive? I have no access to KDE anymore. My computer just hangs at the message "Grub error .." something like that.
Any idea? Thank you!

I had Mepis installed but decided to try out my Suse 9.0 Pro distro before I committed 100%. I put the CD 1 for Suse in and installed and clicked "new installation". Will this overwrite my Mepis...

Man, i can't get CS server working. I don't understand what/ i'm doing wrong. I'm using Mepis. I have all ports open and i've had cs servers on my connection before. I have set permissions on for...

Hmm...interesting thread. So would a Debian based distro (like Mepis) do better than say, Suse or Knoppix for this purpose?
-
Cool! Thank you for the tip.

I started out with SuSE 8.0 Pro and used it without problems for a while. Then for some reason, I lost interest in Linux all together and stepped out of the scene. Since my return, i've bought SuSE...

Mepis does require 128mb of RAM but seriously though, how hard or costly is it to slap some RAM on a machine? I know you've already mentioned that and I'm not arguing, just reiterating. :)
RAM...

Lol. :D Probably a mixture of both. Oh and to answer your question, I am going to be taking the A+ test sometime soon. It's fairly easy and worth it for entry level jobs.

God I would kill myself if I were in your situation. Broadband = reason to surf the net and play online games without pain. Without it, I would be in pain or dead. :)

Xlilo, how old are you, if you don't mind me asking? You sound smart for your age for some reason. :D

Firefox hands down for Windows and Linux environments. I can't believe people actually like Konqueror. It was such a sluggish app for me.
-
I'm not saying DON'T use SuSE. I'm saying check out the little guys (no pun intended) first. They have a complete package minus the bloat which in your case (and in mine) is a good thing.
I'm...

While I would usually recommend SuSE, I'm going to say Mepis or Knoppix this time. Don't get me wrong, SuSE is nice and full of great apps but I would rather have a light OS.
Mepis does a great...

Gotcha. Thank you very much.
Btw, which would you use, MrBen? Knoppix or Mepis?
-
Sweet!
The only thing I noticed about Knoppix is that is a mandatory LiveCD type deal. Can I not install on HD if I want to?
-
Would I be able to install Fluxbox on Knoppix or Mepis? I just found my SuSE 9.0 Pro cds but I think i'll pass and be a bit daring and install something that is NOT SuSE. :D
I just want to know...

Ok, after some searching around i've come down to the following distros:
Knoppix
MEPIS
Suse 9.0
What are the pros and cons of each of these? I know SuSE is not exactly 'light' but it's one...
