I have Debian testing on my Dell with 800mhz and 256mb of RAM and it runs fine with Gnome and tons of stuff running. The only caveat is that I have to restart X every few days to clear out the RAM....

Hello,
I have this friend, he pretty much hates Linux. It never works for him he says. I know you're thinking the same thing I am, "He doesn't know sh!t about Linux". True.

It made all the difference in the world when I used GNU parted to reformat mine. Then I let gtkpod redo everything from scratch, but I had a different problem...

Well, you can always try it and see how it works. You may get lucky and be able to use it nonetheless. After all, the CD is has lots of small files on it and chances are it's not a critical package,...

Hi all,
I just did a really stupid thing: I ran strip * in /usr/lib. :(
Everything runs fine, but I can't compile anything without getting the error

Yes, use tar, it preserves the permissions and the image will be _perfect_. I used this to move my Debian system to a larger partition a few months ago (and I'm using it right now).

Why would you? Even disregarding dependencies completely, RPM is very easy to break. I remember when I used to use Mandy, that after a month or two, my rpm would be totally trashed and I had to stick...

Ok, at the risk of sounding dumb, would you even notice that for "normal" operations? Is the load distributed evenly, or do all the programs you are running have to be specially written to take...

I'm not familiar with rep, but what does "$0" "$@" do after exec rep?
Would #!/path/to/rep work instead of #!/bin/sh ... ?

Are you using framebuffer (as a driver)? Those can look and run like crap; artifacts, jerky mouse, trails, ugh... not to mention slow. Scrolling a webpage can peg the CPU.
Let's have some details,...

KDev is one way to do it.
Actually, you can write it in any text editor, because source code is nothing but text. Just save them as *.cpp or whatever to differentiate them later.
All you have...
