Besides, I'm now using kernel 2.6.12 and I didn't have to compile or patch a thing. . .(just did apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.12-1-386 and it did the rest!)

for debian sarge I installed the 2.6.8 kernel image with:
apt-get -t unstable install kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386
I rebooted with new kernel and got the source with:
apt-get -t unstable install...

yup yup!
just make sure your cd'd into the same dir where your DVD was constructed and do:
growisofs -Z /dev/dvd -dvd-video DVD/
and it should burn fine!
that's why I always test it first...
