The modem is a Westell A90 supplied by BT

I'll have a look at the modem tonight and post the model number.
Just one point is that the connection goes like this:
HC signal --> modem --> set-top box --> puter

The problem with the Homechoice Faqs is that they have not been updated for a few years. The connection is now 1mb and it is a different set top box.
I have tried a 2 or 3 different methods...

Just a small point. It doesn't have to be an RJ45 plug into the phone socket does it?
-
Ok, time for an update.
The modem has 3 sockets, one labelled ethernet, one AT something and the other was either unlabelled or may have been dsl. 2 of these look like the rj45 plug type but...

I like it. It is fairly intuitive and for a newbie coming from windozw I appreciate that. It is difficult enough trying to think back to my days with win 3.1 and dos to remind myself of command...

Strange as it may seem I do not actually know the modem I have. It was a largeish (prob a little bit less than A4) beige box that was supplied by BT when they converted the line (in the days before...

Why not go play the game and d/l the file overnight while you are sleeping? I got a speed of about 60 so server probably clogged with users. The other three disks were quicker than the first one.

Is there an easy fix for this?
Should I be...

OK! Mandrake is installed and working! Now all I have to do is fugure out how to get my broadband to work with it.
-
I have wondered about that. The shop that did the upgrade and where the puter has been back to oh so many times have supposedly checked all the hardware and changed the stuff they installed anyway...

XP has been installed so many times after I upgraded. The installations used to go ok but lately I have not even been able to complete the xp installation as it freezes right at the end. That was...

Thanks for the info. I have reburned disk 1 on a different brand of media (not that it should make a difference but you never know) and am downloading disk 1 again from a different mirror.

Thanks for the help.

Darn it!! Now it boots but on cd1 when it begins to load the file into memory I keep getting I/O hdc errors. I doubt it is the cd's but I am burning some more today.
Any ideas?

Ok... it is me being thick I think... either that or just too used to XP!
I dragged and dropped the iso file into easy cd and therein lies the problem I think. There is only the 'iso' file on the...

Iam sure I am just being a bit thick but I cannot boot of any of the cd files above. I d/l them and burned them to cd.
