To bring up the device when the system starts there should be a file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-<device> that is associated with your wireless device.
In that file you should see...

thats right rpm isn't going to let you install something already there. Try man rpm for some clues. you are interested in the 'force' and 'replacefiles' options.
