Actually the SCO complaint does state that the UNIX code is in the kernel. But it does not specify which kernel or what the code is.
Like earlier posted, the objective is to scare "Corporate...

Lets think about this logically for a second. There are 2 huge corporations at play here (Microsoft) and (Wal-Mart).
Now it seems to me that Wal-Mart just gave Bill Gates the big "middle finger...

I agree there is no strategy to force users to upgrade, however Linux will not even run on an AT (286) style computer, however MS-Dos will.

If you are connected to the internet just do this:

Here's how you tell a kernel what device it is booting off of.
rdev /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.21 /dev/hddX
This is helpful if you swap drives around and you cannot get a kernel to boot.

The question is, is there no /lib/modules/2.4.21 because you did not select anything as module or because you didnt run make modules; make modules_install ?
One way to find if you selected...

That will give you a better idea as to what each file is.

Look in /boot and see if there is a config file there. If so then this config file should should be a starting point for you to build a custom kernel. Here would be the starting steps.

I would suggest you remove any line that has a vga= on it in the /etc/lilo.conf file. Just let it boot into the default video modes. You will be booting in a black & white text screen.
Try that...

The normal Mandrake boot would be like this:
You get the Blue OS selection box. This is for lilo.

Try removing the vga=788 from the lilo.conf file and see if that helps.
Remember anytime you change lilo.conf you have to run lilo to enable the changes.
