what does your lilo.conf have as the boot device, usually the top line:
boot=/dev/hd[a-g]
sounds like it should be hda, or perhaps sda, depending on the set-up, please post /etc/lilo.conf

check what your proxy setttings are in IE, or whatever other browser you use, seems to be the problem.

you will need to install the *-devel packages for kde in rpm format. This is an issue in mandrake, it seems that to build things from source -devel packages need to be installed on rpm systems.

It may be that you have to set the second drive (windows) as bootable.

cfdisk /dev/hdb <-maybe
highlight the windows partition and just press return on the bootable menu option in...

I'd go for the boot with the distro CD and type
linux rescue
then at that shell
e2fsck -p /dev/hd*
see if that can a least get things back in order

Could be one of many things, can you get into the BIOS or not even that far?

Do you actually have vi it's self installed?
If not then there will be no way of changing this, but the vi vim symlink will be in
/usr/bin
ln -s vim /usr/bin/vi
will work if you do have...

I hope someone can learn from this. I had a close call. Someone else out there could actually fry their CPU. SMALL INCREMENTS IN SPEED! If you mess up... Just do what I did. And take it down a notch....

it seems to thing you have a SCSI drive:
sda2
is a SCSI designator check the lilo.conf or grub thingy.
or
boot:<image name> root=/dev/hd<whatever>
