Does anybody know if Apple's Mighty Mouse will even function under Linux, or does it need OSX to work? It looks as though the entire surface of the mouse is a trackpad, which means no buttons. Given...

The problem was fixed by installing the following packages: dfontmgr, psfontmgr, x-ttcidfont-conf, and lmodern.

It turns out that I had a kernel problem- the NIC was set for static, and when I tried to make it dynamic, the module wouldn't load. When I tried to patch the kernel, I came up with boot sector...

I have a new installation of Debian Sarge, and I am having dificulties getting gnucash 1.8.9-4 to fly. I keep having font problems whenever I attempt to load the application. The following error...

Looks like both my router and my NIC are stone dead. The router won't pull up an IP address, even though it is configured as a DHCP client. My box won't even recognise the NIC in Knoppix anymore. For...

Howdy All!
I seem to be having trouble connecting to the net through my standerd network configuration in Debian Sarge. I have network access through Knoppix, but that is the only way that I can...

Beneath the article you posted, I saw the headline for the following article: http://linuxreviews.org/news/2005/02/10_way_to_go_sweeden/

Just in case anybody else has similar problems, here's what I did. First, I booted knoppix with the command knoppix root=/dev/hda(root) (root being...

I think I found what I needed at : http://www.troubleshooters.com/linux/knoppix/knoppix_rescue.htm
I'm not sure if this can get me past the /proc and unable to write to /boot bottlenecks. I'll let...

It turns out that the floppy images that I downloaded were install floppys. Usefull if I wanted to wipe everything and do a clean install, but not what I was looking for. I need a rescue floppy, the...

I was able to locate a boot floppy image for sarge at:
http://ftp.egr.msu.edu/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-i386/current/images/floppy/
However, for some reason, I can not boot from it. It...

I replaced the knoppix lilo.conf with my original, commented out the boot-menu.b, and changed image=/vmlinuz to image=/root/vmlinuz. However, I still had the same problem. I think I need to run LILO...

I replaced the knoppix lilo.conf with my old one. I wind up with exactly the same error:
Fatal: creat /boot/map~: Read-only file system
I think the /boot that I gave was knoppix's.
Try this...

Almost forgot, lilo now returns the following:
Fatal: creat /boot/map~: Read-only file system

That worked, partially. I was able to boot, and I can now run LILO. The only problem is that it looks like knoppix overwrote my lilo.conf file. This is what it looks like now:
# /etc/lilo.conf -...

It turns out that I can't see the whole boot screen. There are about 5 lines at the bottom, that I can not see while booting.
F2 brings up the menu. Once I get there, I can type in commands.

It looks like Knoppix 3.2 does not allow any commands before booting. It sits at a splash screen for a few minutes, during which time it just sits there no matter what I do with the keyboard. After...

After a bit of research, I realised that the /proc filesystem was dynamic and created on the fly. With Knoppix, it would be using it's own /proc filesystem on the ramdisk.
rm /dev/mouth/foot

Looking in my /proc directory, there is nothing in it. No directorys, files, nothing. I was hoping that there would be a file labeled partitions. Was this directory wiped when LILO mangled my boot...

I comented out install=/boot/boot-menu.b , and re-ran LILO, but wound up with exactly the same problem. Where should /proc/partitions be in /etc/lilo.conf , and in what context? Do I need to modify...

I did as you instructed, and was able to run LILO. I definitely need to remember how to do that. Here is the output of LILO:
Warning: '/proc/partitions' does not exist, disk scan bypassed

Should that be /dev/hd01,2,3, etc?
