Here's how you tell a kernel what device it is booting off of.

rdev /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.21 /dev/hddX

This is helpful if you swap drives around and you cannot get a kernel to boot.

fdisk -l /dev/hda >hda.txt
Then post hda.txt file.

That will give you a better idea as to what each file is.

This is a WAG but I would think you will need to pay RedHat some money to get the enterprise edition.

Look in /boot and see if there is a config file there. If so then this config file should should be a starting point for you to build a custom kernel. Here would be the starting steps.

I would suggest you remove any line that has a vga= on it in the /etc/lilo.conf file. Just let it boot into the default video modes. You will be booting in a black & white text screen.

Try removing the vga=788 from the lilo.conf file and see if that helps.

Remember anytime you change lilo.conf you have to run lilo to enable the changes.
