I had a similar issue on a Centos system. It turned out I needed to load an ftp connection tracking module. I'm not familiar with Suse but the module was called ip_conntrack_ftp in Centos. Another...

Hello whitty. When you say you want to restrict certain scripts are you saying you want to limit access to certain pages? If that's the case then you can simply use apache's built in authentication:...

Hello all. I've just come into possession of a Compaq ML370 G1 and have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get into the BIOS so I can set up the RAID arrays. I've read up on this particular model and it...

Try this:

I personally have been using netbeans but plan to try this as soon as I can.
I'd also recommend looking at the java tutorials on...

Why don't you just swap your old RAM back and compile the exact same stuff and see where you get. That would determine whether it's the RAM that's at fault.
-
So you installed mplayer and it tries to play it but gives a screwed up picture? Did you get the codec pack?
-
You may have to compile support into the kernel before you're able to read the filesystem. I think fat32 is supported by default but I think you have to compile ntfs in by yourself. Someone correct...

Go here and download the essential codec pack and extract it to /usr/lib/win32. That should allow whatever player to read the format ok.

To be honest I've never tried Ubuntu. I'm downloading the iso now as I've wanted to give it a go anyway. Get back to you if I can shed any light. :p
In the mean time I'm sure someone else can...

You'll have to be more specific, at what point does it give this message? Does it boot successfully from the CDROM?

Looks pretty damn good to me, the only thing I did spot was that you misspelled reconnaissance in the pre-installation section. A bit nit-picking I know but you did ask. :p
I hadn't even heard of...

I can't help but think that maybe the Linux Geek thing was the catalyst, maybe they felt threatened somehow? I'd ignore the lot if I were you. They obviously have some strange agenda that defies...

It just seemed to me that it was being stated as fact rather than oppinion. It's no big deal.

How can you make a statement like that? Humour is totally personal and subjective.

Not exactly inspired but I've seen worse.

Sounds like number four might be what you're after.

I find this thread particularly interesting because I was torn between slackware and debian but eventually settled on debian because of the ease with which I could upgrade the whole system.
Can I...

What specifically is going wrong? Are you getting error messages? What are they?
-
It's a tgz file. Synonymous with tar.gz.

I'm not sure there is any standard way of doing this. I managed to get a LAMP setup running just this last week but that was through trial and error. Took a couple of days to sort out.
I think the...

I am no expert but every thread I have read on such matters recommends you do a fresh install as there is no way to be sure what has been tampered with and as such no way to guarantee the machine is...

Heavy metal seems to be a recurring theme so perhaps I should share my latest discovery, a band called 'Diesel Machine'. So heavy it hurts! RRRRRRAAAAAA! :p

Ok it's been a few years since I used redhat but I seem to remember using a 'force' option to remove problematic packages like the one you describe.
I.e. rpm -ef <packagename>
I'm pretty sure...

I had problems similar to those you describe and I found that changing the mirrors listed in the make file helped. It could just be that you're pointed at busy gentoo servers. Just a suggestion.

This kind of coincides with what I've been hearing from other people, i.e. a lot of people get their jobs 'through the back door' as it were. I definitely want to end up doing something to do with...
