    JustLinux chat?

I just thought it would be a good idea to have a chat on JustLinux.

    Possible reason for web chat

One good reason why you could do a web chat as opposed to an IRC would be for people in my situation. Whilst at school we're not allowed to use any IRC clients........go figure

You download the putty.exe file at school. Set up a ssh server at home, Use putty to connect to your home computer, then use *****x to chat.

    EDIT:

I do this at work, because they disable java and flash on our computers. Its works quite nice.

aren't these java chat applets usually just a front-end to irc?

And if you are in the same positition as I was. That it was impossible to download anything on the school computers and port 22 was closed, you just bring PuTTy on a floppy and set up a ssh server at home on port 443 (or 433 ?) which is HTTPS, and that will most likely be open.

would it work to set up a proxy server at home, and then set the browser to use that proxy? my school uses a system wide filter, and there are no settings on the individual computers you can change that would get rid of the the filter. (in theroy, because there is at least on computer where the filter is always down.) so if i set up the proxy at home, my home ip wouldnt be on the block list, so all traffic would go through, with the proxy retriving the pages and orwarding them to the computer at school. right?

haha, moot point, due to dial up, and lack of available alternatives. but its fun to think about.
