What distro? For rpms, try www.rpmfind.net or www.freshrpms.net for Debian based distros there is a package available, for slackware, see if there is a .tgz package available on www.linuxpackages.net
    If not available,
    1. bunzip "the package
    2. cd to the directory that is created, read the README and INSTALL text file.

ok let me give you a step by step tutorial on how to do this....

    1. unzip the file with Ark (or some other extracting tool). this will make a new directory called mkdonkey or something.

    2. open a terminal in the new directory

    3. type ./configure in the terminal

    4. type make

    5. become super user (by typing su in the terminal)

    5. type make install

    6. type mkdonkey in the terminal

    7. have fun!

    Johnatan,
Thanks. thats the kind of help I was looking for.

I did what he said but when i try to ./configure it says I need a program. So I went to the website and it said that I need 2 programs. 1 was a rpm file and I ran that and I guess it installed. The the 2nd program I installed but it said the first program wasn't installed so i can't install program #2 (sorry I don't know the program names)

    What do I do?

    Thanks once again

How do you know what programs to install if you don't know the program's names?
How about looking on Google and see if others have the same problem?
I searched on Google and found this- kmldonkey
I hope you're using kde, if not I'm sure there is one available for gnome. We still don't know what distro or what desktop- that would certainly help. Duh.
I'm sure if you had looked around and not waited on someone to spoon feed you, it would have been installed by now.

    Yes I am running KDE.

and I am sure if I spent all day I could have the program installed too but you people seem to know much more about Linux then I ever will and I am just asking for some help.

The programs needed are Ocaml and lablgtk I downloaded RPM for Ocaml and it installed I think because there were no errors, then I tried to install lablgtk but it said Error and something about Ocaml not being installed.

Hopefully this answered more of your questions. Thank you

    1. Which distro? Then we would know if you could use rpm, debian, slackware. We would know if you needed to do something special because of a distro needing a particular library, etc.
    2. Even if you had spent 2 hours reading the documentation, finding out how to compile a program (the instructions are available on hundreds of places), you would already be using it.
    3. On freshmeat are links for slackware, rpm packages. On rpmfind net are rpms for suse.
    4. If you search these forums, there are 2 pages on mldonkey. If you search Google, ther are explicit instructions for installing it.
    5. don't mind helping people who at least do some research and are stuck. But you're asking, basically, how do I use Linux? Why not help yourself first?

I understand what you are saying and I tried to install it, I spent a few hours but I couldn't get around the fact that I couldn't install lablgtk due to Ocaml not being installed but I ran the RPM of labgtk and it asked me if I wanted to install and I clicked yes and then it installed I guess. Then I try to install Ocaml but didn't work.

I will look around and spend 3 hours at most on it right now too see if I can install it.

    I am on Mandrake 9.2

    Thanks

Umm I just have a question. I am looking around and well, is a rpm package for RedHat only? That what it seems like to me. Everywhere I see a RPM is talking about redhat something

    Thanks

    mandrake rpms
Here are mandrake rpms, I looked and it has kmldonkey, all the mldonkey rpms. Plus the lib files are present in the lib**rpm section. Maybe you can add the sources to the urphi(?) (the mandrake rpm installer).

Sorry to push you so hard, the thing about linux is that you can usually find the answer with a bit of searching- I usually type what I'm looking for in Google with "linux" added. ex: " mldonkey linux" or "cdburning linux".
Congrats- you are no longer a virgin.
