EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
You wouldn't want to delete those journal files since you are using the ext3 journaling filesystem.

Are you sure the journals are the ones taking up all the space? Have a look around the filesystem for core dumps etc. or other large files. You can probably use 'find' with specific options that can search for files that are greater than a certain filesize.

    find / -name "core*" -print
and then delete it at the same time.
    can we do that?

but I also do not understand why it is very slow now.
    can you help this too.
    TIA.

You could pipe to results of find to 'rm -i'. I would suggest '-i' for interactive mode instead of blindly deleting all core files.

Have you run 'top' to see if any processes are hogging the system? Any changes made just before this started to happen?

It could be due to the root filesystem being 95% full.

    Code:
    rw_swap_page: bad swap file
    Unable to find swap-space signature
That looks like your problem right there... Maybe it's running slow due an uninitialized swap partition...

during the boot process, I saw that too. BUT I have already touch the "SWAP" in the directory ( scratch) that the system wants.

    During booting the message:

    /scratch/SWAP invalid argument.

What and how I do something about this?

I never have formal training in RH.

What you'd want to do with /scratch is actually mount it as swap space, not as a regular filesystem. First, type

    mkswap /dev/hda10

then, add this line to your /etc/fstab and remove the other line for /scratch or /dev/hda10 or whatever was there before:

    Code:
    /dev/hda10	swap	swap	defaults	0 0
that could possibly speed up your system...

    I'm confused.

    Your fstab file:

    /dev/hda5 / ext3 defaults 1 1
    /dev/hda9 /cdr2 ext3 defaults 1 2
    /dev/hda8 /intranet ext3 defaults 1 2
    /dev/hda10 /scratch ext3 defaults 1 2
    /dev/hda7 /usr ext3 defaults 1 2
    /dev/hda6 /www ext3 defaults 1 2
    /dev/hda11 swap swap defaults 0 0
    /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy ext2 owner,noauto 0 0
    /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 owner,noauto,ro 0 0
    none /proc proc defaults 0 0
    none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
    none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
    /www/SWAP swap swap defaults 0 0
    /scratch/SWAP swap swap defaults 0 0

This is your swap partition entry:

    /dev/hda11 swap swap defaults 0 0

Then you have these two lines that indicate they are for swap:

    /www/SWAP swap swap defaults 0 0
    /scratch/SWAP swap swap defaults 0 0

And to add to the confusion, you have these two partitions mounting to the directories named above:

    /dev/hda10 /scratch ext3 defaults 1 2
    /dev/hda6 /www ext3 defaults 1 2

So, are you trying to add more swap space?
