Terminal message: There are Stopped Jobs

    Using Mandrake 9.0
Opened a terminal and su'd to root.
    Did "updatedb" and then "locate".
    Did "rm filename then
Tried to exit su and return to normal user mode, but got this message: "There are stopped jobs" and my terminal is still at the root prompt (#). Can't exit.
How do I find out what the "stopped jobs" are? I'm not even sure what would have caused this message since the only thing I did was as explained above
    Distro: Mandrake Linux 9.0
    Processor: AMDK6-2 333Mhz
    Memory: 448MB

    type the command: jobs
which will show you what's stopped then you can start it and bring it to the front with: fg <job number>

    Well, that was simple enough.

I've never had that happen before................didn't have a clue what was going on.
