maybe if they lose business they will learn.
they have a very long history of dropping support / crappy support - and not just with Video Cards
I agree, the only way to get action from ATI is to ignore them like the gamers did. worked for them, will work for Linux users as well.
buy nVidia, show your support for the company who has shown theirs.

I signed it, as I have a Radeon 7000 in my tower, anyone have any ideas on doing the same to Intel and SiS??
Intel has not released a driver for Centrino, although they claim to be helping the community, if you look on the sourceforge site, you will that nearly all of the contributors are individuals and not Intel, GRRR, also SiS give crappy support, I still can't get 3D for my laptop!!!
Feel free to PM me for help
Using PCLinuxos 2007 on my laptop and 2009 on my Desktop and proud of it!

Check the mailing list, it is true that a lot of work has been done by volenteers but James Ketrenos is working VERY hard on the ipw2100 AND ipw2200 drivers. There is also another guy or two from Intel working on them.
I have and use the ipw2100 card/drivers and they work GREAT. The ipw2200 has been progressing in leaps and bounds. They are truely doing a great job
BTW, the ipw2100 was released in April and the ipw2200 was released in June. For two projects that are extremely young still, they are doing great!

Not signed. Not buying. I have an ATI and I've learned my lesson. It's an ok card, it was (one of?) the first 3D cards for a laptop, so I can't complain there. But if I have a choice: nVidia.

I Think another big way to let them know you're frustrated is to directly tell them -
http://apps.ati.com/linuxDfeedback/index.asp
[their linux feedback form]
I think directly venting your frustrations to them via their company website would be more effective than the petition.

That petition made Slashdot news and they updated their drivers! Still not open source though.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed - Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

I just sent this thread to a buddy of mine, to help explain why, I prefer to use Nvida cards over ATI ones in my systems, and he told me " blah, blah, blah, sorry you have a 2nd rate card in your system :P and he is an RHCE and long time redhat user. oh well i guess I'll just stick to my Nvida cards for now

Folding is Fun
I thought I made a mistake once, but, of course, I was mistaken.

I passed this thread on to others who are stuck with ATi cards.
My only comment to this whole state of affairs is:
I love my Matrox!
