Thank you for alerting us.
But honestly- I think it would be better to tell great mdwatts stories than to bring such a tragic tone to the post...
Honor him with laughter, with stories- make sure he lives on...
And thank him, for what he left with us...

My condolences goes out to his family and friends.
He was a tremendously great asset to the community, judging from his isanely high number posts and the quality of them (I seem to remember a 30.000 post "jubilee"!). He must have helped push thousands of aspiring penguins forward in their Linux adventures. How many posts did he get to make?
His input will be sorely missed.
Happy trails Mike.

That's pretty freaking incredible...
I wonder if we could make like a "sticky" profile where some sort of little place would be made for him...
Or an mdwatts quotes page or wiki or something... He's got to have answered almost every question out there...
What do ya think?

Some sort of preservation of his labor is only in order. Think of the knowledgebase his input represents. I think it's time for a quick back-up

You beat me to it... I was typing up a similar post, and yours showed up when I went to preview it. They should come up with some sort of permanent tribute for him, since he helped so many people... We can't let him be forgotten.

We could all do some G4L and JL searches in his honor.
- Debian testing/unstable with kernel 2.6
- IceWM

This is a tragedy for everyone, here or for those who knew him personally. My condolences go out to his family and friends. We should do something to honour his memory for all the help he gave the community.

I too extend my condolences to all his family and friends. When I first started with Linux, he helped me too with many answers. I agree that some sort of working permanent memorial should be set up in JustLinux to constantly remind newcomers of the spirit of his thinking.
Rest In Peace, good and noble citizen.

Mike, thank you for all you have done for all of us here at Just Linux and previously Linux Newbie. You were a great asset to this community and will be missed greatly.
I've known and respected you since I joined LNO back in Feb. 2000. I have faint memories of your previous account, WattsMD, before the forum software ate that account several years ago.
In honor of you memory, I have done a G4L search on your username. The following came up which I think all of us would enjoy. It's an article on the defunct Grasshoppers' Linux Journal titled "Getting help in Linux" from nuvan.

OMG, its like I was teasing him 1 minute ago and now I am reading this terrible news...
My deepest condolences. He was a great help and his death is really a waste of talent. BTW, how old is he?
I think I'm so sad that I don't know what to say for a sec. I should remove that post I just made to tease him now.
May he in heaven know we loved him.

I'd like to send out my condolences to the the family of Mdwatts as well.
He personally helped me numerous times before, and was a great presence on the forum and in the linux community.
We miss you..
