The "unix jewels" as you put it..are worthless.
And what I'm saying is that MS is paying more to those companies than what those companies are paying MS in return for their "intellectual property".
I think their whole scheme is to generate negative publicity about linux and that's all.

    I see.

Those articles make very cursory mention of some sort of collaboration over intellectual property but most of the emphasis, by far, was over the patent infringement issue. I guess it is juicier news.

most likely this is nothing more than a way for M$ to lock out FOSS
M$ will most likely incest that a key be used to install software
(in the name of virus protection )
a key that has to be paid for
and who will sell those keys
    M$ of course

Any comments, anyone, about the "Mojave" marketing ploy?
This reminds me of the "emails" flooding Microsoft in support of
them during the antitrust trial; many of those emails were astroturf
created by the company, so I'm told.
The "mojave" thing says GEE HOW MANY PEOPLE LIKE VISTA!!

Is this the sound of desperation? I just think they're disconnected
from reality. It's just too koo-koo.

    A Pict^H^H^H^HGeek Song

Bill never looks where he treads,
    Always his heavy hooves fall
    On our stomachs, our hearts or our heads;
And Bill never heeds when we bawl.
His OEMs buy – that is all,
And we gather our kernels in hordes,
And patch and recompile them all,
With only our mice for our swords.

We are the Linux Folk – we!
Too little to love or to hate.
Leave us alone and you'll see
    How Unix and freedom relate!
We have no worms 'neath our hood!
We are the ones who have root!
We own our tears and our blood!
We are the thorn in Bill's foot!

    Mistletoe killing an oak –
Rats gnawing cables in two –
Moths making holes in a cloak –
How they must love what they do!
Yes – and we Linux Folk too,
We are as busy as they –
Writing our source in plain view –
Watch, and you'll run it some day!

No indeed! We are not strong,
But we know servers that are.
Yes, and we'll help them along,
To stay up and do what they're for!
We shan't be slaves to your game,
    Users should never be slaves,
But you – you may rant, troll and flame,
Till some day we'll dance on your graves!

We are the Linux Folk – we!
Too little to love or to hate.
Leave us alone and you'll see
    How Unix and freedom relate!
We have no worms 'neath our hood!
We are the ones who say "w00t"!
We own our tears and our blood!
We are the thorn in Bill's foot!

    Puppyite’s Review of Windows 7

The newest behemoth out of Redmond is more of the same sh|te from the people who brought you blue screens, fatal errors and GPF (General Principal Fuc~ups).

My new laptop came preinstalled with this mess and what a mess it is. I wouldn’t give two cents for it, luckily I didn’t have to. The price I paid for my laptop didn’t even pay for the hardware so I got mistake #7 from Microsoft free.

This pig starts up slower than a 1950 DeSoto in subfreezing weather and handles the same too. I’d characterize it as ponderous. Even on a brand new laptop with 64bit processor, 2GB RAM and 160GB hard drive.

Talk about busy, this POS is busier than a one armed paper hanger. Updates (a.k.a. crap) are constantly being downloading and installed without even so much as a “by your leave”. Who knows what all the damn thing is up to!

Forget about privacy, every application on your hard drive broadcasts your IP and pesters you constantly in hopes of selling you something or getting more info out of you to sell to marketers.

Don’t expect your hardware to last as long either. Windows 7 hammers the hard drive constantly and the processor pegs out no matter what you’re doing. UGH!

I feel sorry for anyone who has to use this mess on a daily basis. If I had to use Windows I’d choose Windows 98SE over this crud any day.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, if you use static IP addresses you won’t be able to network with other computers, not unless you upgrade them to mess #7 too.

Folks, it’s way past time to kick this crap to the curb and step up to a real OS like Linux, Puppy Linux that is!

Everything about how to use and enjoy Puppy Linux can be found at the Puppy Linux FAQ. There is no easier way to get started with Linux than by visiting the Puppy Linux FAQ and trying Puppy Linux for yourself. www.puppylinuxfaq.org

It even gets a little strange - the way even the ad men cannot think up anything sensible to say about Windows 7. In the UK, at least, most people seeing the TV adverts would just conclude it was pointless crap.

It is almost, but not quite, as weird as the Ford motor company's current advert: "Kinetic Design", "it looks like it's moving even when it's still". I am not making that up. Seriously - there could be a geo-political reason for discouraging the sale of Fords.

Talking of windows 7 hammering hardware reminds me of a story I read today about W7 destroying batteries, i.e. after a few months the battery can't hold a charge anymore. This story really lead to me upgrading from vista to Linux rather than to W7, does anyone know this to be true or is it a myth?
