It's a textbased spread sheet program. There may be others, but this is the best one I could find on Debian. (Even still, it's not that great. I don't know if it's able to exchange documents with any gui programs.)

I've been lamenting the fact that there are no console-based word processors, like there used to be for DOS. As is, I have to type my stuff in vi and then prep it for printing in OO.o or abiword.

I liked Word Perfect 5.0/1 or whatever it was. I realize that is not what you want, and one would have to run it in one of the emulator thingies, Also it won't output pdf files, but I liked it.
Still, I get by with Libre Office.f
There are folks who claim they use LyX as a word processor.
All distros should have vi/vim, x/emacs,
u can also try WordGrinder, gedit
you can use LaTeX from within any text-based word processor, which has the added benefit of being converted to PDF, RTF, DOC, and other formats.
abiword is one good one too
