    Or an organizer like the old dos Sidekick?

    I'm kinda sick of graphics. ready to go back to a green phosphor screen and some punch-cards.

    thanks

    slsc -> s-language spreadsheet calculator

    It's a textbased spread sheet program. There may be others, but this is the best one I could find on Debian. (Even still, it's not that great. I don't know if it's able to exchange documents with any gui programs.)
    apt-get install slsc

    What a timely topic for me!

    I've been lamenting the fact that there are no console-based word processors, like there used to be for DOS. As is, I have to type my stuff in vi and then prep it for printing in OO.o or abiword.

    Dropbox console client for syncronizing documents: http://www.dropboxwiki.com/tips-and-...ux-environment

    I like this idea having an old laptop for pure textbased work and spreadsheets syncing to dropbox folder for later editing on a gui-based pc:

    I liked Word Perfect 5.0/1 or whatever it was. I realize that is not what you want, and one would have to run it in one of the emulator thingies, Also it won't output pdf files, but I liked it.

    Still, I get by with Libre Office.f

    There are folks who claim they use LyX as a word processor.

    All distros should have vi/vim, x/emacs,
    u can also try WordGrinder, gedit
    you can use LaTeX from within any text-based word processor, which has the added benefit of being converted to PDF, RTF, DOC, and other formats.
    abiword is one good one too
