Aren't you allowed to still add gparted? Since gparted is GPL software, I would imagine you are allowed to use it in what ever project you want no matter what the original author says.

GParted is still on there. What I meant is if I wanted to I could add qtparted or some other program. I want to stick to being a really small partitioning utility though. The thing that is going to make Parted Magic unique is the frequent updates. If a new version of Linux, parted, or gparted comes out I'm going to have a new release within days. Most major distros update one or two times a year and most users are stuck with an old kernel, parted, or gparted when trying to install. Who cares if I have 100 releases per year?

I have played around with Parted Magic 1.0 this morning and it looks professional to me. It is an ideal tool for answering all the partitioning needs becuase my favourites cfdisk and fdisk are both inside to complement the excellent Gparted. To a partitioner I am bad news as very few users run 147 partitions in a box.

The way I understand this distro is that it is really fronted by gparted as the most up to date GUI partitioning tools.

Being the first release we can expect bugs and the first one I hit is my 4 disks were read perfectly by Gparted, then only one disk is readable in fdisk and cfdisk found segmentation fault with my hdb which is a CD drive. I have to say the cfdisk and fdisk programs could be too new (or too old) as I haven't checked them with other distros. I think the cfdisk program is the newest I have come across but it could have been modified by the author of Parted Magic.

With a little bit more time I shall put it to the test with resizing XP and Vista partitions.

I like Parted Magic's idea of including the good partitioning tools in one Live CD. If there is a wish list I would like to see it installable on a hard disk with a ready made script, though I probably have a go to put it into my hard disk as it certainly an essential tool.

If the original poster wants a good (cheap) partitioner than Parted Magic looks like the best thing since slice bread. I just hate to see the word "cheap" associated with a free software professionally put together by hundreds of manhours.
