At work, we use Macs. I've gotten used to the convenient keystroke alt-shift-4 (or alt-$) to create a snap of a selected area of the desktop and alt-shift-3 (or alt-#) for the whole screen. Well, I wanted the same keystrokes on my kubuntu box at home (my production box). Asking around on another forum, there was a suggestion made and I tried it. Most distros will have a package called scrot. Scrot -s will snapshot a selected area while scrot will do the full screen. In control center, I bound scrot -s to alt-shift-4 and scrot to alt-shift-3. The result is a timestamped png file in the home directory (where I'd prefer it to go over the desktop). It works GREAT.

For anyone who wanted the same, or similar, function, this works like a charm.
