need help with man options
Hello and thanks in advance
Last credit for diploma, assignment 1, completely unsure
Last time I touched Linux was about 4 years ago, sort of picking up, slowly.
Q. What command would you use to read about the sync system call (not the sync command)?
A. man 2 sync
A2. man -k 'system call'
Not looking for someone to do this for me, just advice.
Thanks

man man
"apropos sync" may be helpful as well to find the proper man page to look at.

ok I fail
still do not get it though....
this is straight from the book:
"The form man SECTION TITLE gets you a man page from a particular section. Thus, man tty gets you the man page for the tty command, and man 4 tty gets you the man page for the contorolling terminal driver."
If the systems call section is 2, based on the example above, I thought man 2 sync would work? am I missing something?
2nd aprt of the question is:
How would you read sync's local man page that was kept in /usr/local/share/man
My answer:
manpath sync/usr/local/share/man
Probabaly way off here, but I am trying....
Thanks
