I get to the line where I am to input the installed browser path which is /use/lib/firefox and that is where it fails ... what character do I include before the first foward slash of the path to correct this

mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins
mv libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins
<restart firefox>
Much, much easier. Don't bother with their crap installer; it's obviously broken. Just dump the file where it needs to be (your user's private plugins directory, which is the only one you have write permission to anyway -- you shouldn't be running random scripts as root either), and restart the browser to pick it up.

Okay, I don't understand your error message. So let me go though a list of things that I would try if I wanted to install flashplayer, and maybe it'll be helpful.
1. I'd try downloading and installing it directly using YAST. (Make sure you've linked to the packman repository.
2. I'd try downloading an rpm file from the adobe site, and installing it with the gui installer. Right click in your file manager, and follow the instruction.
OR
3. I'm pretty sure that the flashplayer came preinstalled with Opensuse 11.1, which is what I'm running now. If an upgrade appeals to you for its own sake, this might be a way to kill two birds with one stone.
