    Exclamation Wireless help

I've just recently installed ubuntu 9.10 and have a problem with my wireless internet connection. i can connect to some wireless routers, and others i cant, and sometimes i can even connect but cant browse the internet. when im at school, i can connect to the wireless just fine, but i cant at my house, or my friends house. i've been trying different solutions all over the net and even broke ubuntu a couple of times and had to reinstall it several times already. the only way i have found to make it work at my house is to go straight through firewire, but i cant move anywhere if i do that

any help would be appreciated, thanks
