Using bluetooth with a mobile, cell, phone?

A cheap mobile phone, Samsung E2100B. It would be highly convenient to use the computer keyboard to write text messages, would save a lot of money.

Is there a way to tie it up to the computer with bluetooth. Bluetooth is mentioned in some of the 'phone's menus?

Is some sort of USB bluetooth dongle necessary? How may the typical cell phone be set up to use this technology?

Thanks any help. I'm completely hopeless with anything modern with buttons on it.

Get impression it is impossible to use a computer keyboard to type a mobile phone, cell phone, text message. It'd cost them money presumably.

    So forget the question, thanks.

This is wrong! Get a usb bluetooth dongle and connect to your phone.
Then you need some software to read/write messages, what works depends on the phone.
That's how I've been sending messages from my SonyEricsson the last years.

    That's beautiful, thanks.

I'm going out to get said dongle now. Be a bit pissed off if project does not work.

EDIT: How about a USB cable, that costs 6 British pounds, at a guess bluetooth dongle'll be twice that? What sort of name does the software have?

I don't know what system you have, but try searching repos for keywords like "mobile".
Example of program: gammu, gMobileMedia (uses gammu), kandy, kmobiletools

A usb cable might work, however in my experience bluetooth is much more likely to work.

Huge thanks. I'll try bluetooth and get back for the reference. Using Debian Lenny 5 backport.

Yes there is a way to tie it up to the computer with bluetooth. If you look in settings you should see how to do it. I dont think the odngle is necessary.
