Anyone Still Around From the LNO Days?

Man, have I ever been out of the loop

Is JohnT still around? MrBen? Bkwaz?

Drifted away from Linux for a while when I went to Mac and got lazy (btw it's a POS). However I got all GEEKY again the other day and fired up the old box which is running Slack 9.1 & Debian Sid--can you say outdated???

Anyhoo, I did get curious about a year or so ago and d/l a live disk of Ubuntu and was SHOCKED to see how there was no fiddling and it even picked up a wireless signal (with the appropriate chipset in the dongle). That's not really much fun so very soon I'm buying a new barebones box and will build another great system and probably do Linux From Scratch.

Hope everyone is well. Thought of mdwatts the other day, with much sadness btw.

I first joined as mrrangerman in Nov 2001 I didn't start posting until 2005 under this handle. I see if there are any new postings just about every day. Not as much activity on the site as in the LNO days, fact not near the activity from 2005. I guess people have lives and move on, and some times they even come back to check out the old neighbor hood.

    All good here
Married with a little boy, far cry from 2002.

I think the reason for the forums slowdown was the arrival of Ubuntu - everyone finally got their "user friendly" distro

LNO got me off the ground very effectively, back in the day. I still check back pretty often, but post even less than I used to because (to misquote Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie) I've got a wife and things to get done. We still use Linux exclusively at home though, I just don't tweak it so much now.

    December 1999

I don't check in much any more. Been with Linux since December 1999. In those days, there was so much traffic, admins said instead of calling someone, they'd post here, and do something else, then in an hour check back, and the answer would be there. Now, it can be many days before a posting scrolls off the index.

I am not going to repeat what I have said in the past, but URL policy changes also caused a lot of people to bail. And, the owners and staff say their are happy with it as it is.

In 2000, there was no competition. Now there is, including distro specific boards.

I am much more likely to look at the Linux news below the posting index.

Dang... I've been around here since 2002. I too don't do much linux tweaking and what-not these days. My main draw here now is the justlinux_folding team.

If I ever get to a place where I can get a broadband internet connection, then I will re-establish some of my linux machines. I'm currently almost all windows since they do GPU folding. I just can't get the newer folding clients to work right on linux.

Long time lurker here. I don't post much but I like to read what's going on. Last couple years I have been off in the weeds on other things. For help these days I have gone to a distro specific site as well....and naturally hash my luck out on google. Over the years (1998 i believe i started with Linux - Redhat), I have been able to resolve most of my own issues and do look to the web from time to time. The people here have always been good. I can't say I noticed the traffic dwindling as I don't check the site as much as I used to.

Is the IRC channel still up? I forget what I used to use to log in.

Anyhow, great site and I hope it's around for a good long time.

This topic got me thinking, and i thought I'd find out if I could access my old account. Spiderbaby1958 dates back to when I was logging in to Linux Newbies with a Windows System. The first time I logged in here with Linux (Mandrake 8.0, if memory serves) I registed once again as blackbelt_jones.
