Ubuntu or BackTrack question
Im trying to learn Linux on my own, more so from the command line.. the only direction I can say I'm going is to learn about information security and penetration testing. I've used windows for a long time and never dabbled with any others until now. Im currently reading Hacking Exposed 6, any other resources that might speed up my learning curve?
Also, where do you go to change user permissions within Linux OS's??
thanks in advance!! Oh, if these questions have been asked freq please just send me to some previous posts!! thanks!

You can change permissions via the gui (if you must...) but the chmod and chown commands are your friends - they change the mode (permissions) and ownership of files/directories.

The book "The Basics of Hacking and Penetration Testing" comes to my mind written by Patrick Engebretson. It is a good introduction. After reading it, I decided to drop it alltogether. Not my thing.
Furthermore, read about SELinux and apparmor (wikipedia)
