startup sequence of events > messages

I have just installed Debian and after booting several times I have noticed several "warning" messages that scroll off the screen so fast that it really did take me three tries of actually LOOKING for the red letters to actual be able to read the word "warning" ... then it starts Gnome and I have no idea what the messages are.

Is there a way to slow down the start up messages or to put them in a LOG where I can look at them after the startup is finished?

bootlogd should be enabled so have a look at the /var/log/boot
