    Mandrake 8 'Kernel Panic'

I installed LM8 on a toshiba satellite 1555CDS(LM7.2 worked on this laptop).
1)install thought my usb zip was sda, and tried to install to my zip drive.
2)install tried to use the zip for my rescue disk.
3)during boot, everything is fine until:
    'checking for new hardware', THEN:
    Kernel Panic: Killing interrupt handler!
In interrupt handler - not syncing

    Does anyone have any ideas?

I have tried to re-install with the zip NOT
connected(everything disconnected except for PS2 mouse and win-modem disabled). When doing this, the rescue disk is written to
fd0, but it fails during boot also! I am
    a newbie!!!

you might want to try expert mode and see if you can tell mandrake not to run kudzu and harddrake on boot maybe?
you will disarm all your weapons and escort us to sector 001 , where we will begin assimilating your culture and technolo??

I used to see quite a few posts here concerning 'not syncing' errors. Believe the error could relate to any number of problems, so I would suggest you do a search at Google for your specific error and you may find the answer.
