Background images & RAM?

Using Helix Gnome (Debian) and am just starting to play with the background...

Just curious as to the correlation between image size and desktop slowdown...

I know it was a factor in WinX, but I'm not all that familiar with how much it will effect Linux...

FYI- PII 450/128 Mb...Resolution set at 1280 X 960.

After the inital loading I would guess not too much. Unless you run memory intensive tasks. Then again, I could be wrong
