    need help setting slave/master connections

I need to change the Master Slave connections on two Hard drives, I see that there are markings about which are on slave, but not on the master. So I need help to change

    One Maxtor 5T040H4 -- 40 Gigabyte Drive -- Master

    And

    One Maxtor 6L080J4 -- 80 Gigabyte Drive -- Slave

I want to change the Master to Slave, and Slave to Master, Thanks

You should check out www.maxtor.com and search for your model numbers. Maybe in the discontinued section. I know maxtor keeps a very long list of text files with specs and settings.
May the Source be with GNU

I searched for about 3 hours, Had problems, tried editing to a config I thought was correct, but I encountered a problem. I thought I had lost all my files for a while,

So if anyone has any experience with Maxtor Drives, I would be very happy with any help.

It's not that hard... is it?!?!

All you have to do is find out which spot the jumper has to be in for master vs. slave on each drive (and that information is plainly listed somewhere on Maxtor's site, in the reference you find for the drive model number), then move the jumper to that spot.

Then boot your computer back up (you ARE doing this with the power off, right?), and go into your BIOS setup to make sure they're registering as the correct device.

    That's it.

Of course, software wise, there might be some changes necessary -- you'll probably have to reinstall your bootloader on the other drive first, and change /etc/fstab to match the new device files before you shut down, but that's not hard either.
