    BeOS generic video

Is it possible to use some sort of better generic video options in BeOS instead of the monochrome 640 x 480 mode? Anything would be better, really. Why can't I do generic SVGA at 640 x 480 at 256 at least?

    Thanks

Yeah, try changing the display settings under Preferences.

No, really?! Duh, you'd think I'd figure that out if only I had the right video drivers to do that!!

Damn settle down. Jeez. A number of people have complained about monochrome displays only to find that by simply changing the preferences the problem is fixed. I had to do this and adjust the screen size.

If you're looking for display drivers you could always check out bebits.com.

Oh, sorry, I thought you were getting saucy with me for a second. I've been trying to use BeOS for years now, and I've tried the settings numerous times, so I got a little irked when you told me to do that. Just like tech support people tell you to make sure the power is on.

Anyhow, I've tried that, and no, it doesn't work. And there is no driver for my card. That's why I was wondering about some sort of generic driver or something. Every other OS in the world has generic drivers. See, all I need is 800 x 600 and 256 color or something. I tried one (the only one I could find at the time), but it turned out to be some nVidia nonsense that I don't need.

Anything generic, at all? Anything? Anything would be better than that awful monochrome 640 x 480.

Never mind, somebody released a driver this past year. Works like a charm, well, it works. Thanks for pointing me at bebits. I've been there and I didn't find anything last time (incidentally last year as well, but things always turn up after I look).

Thanks again, and sorry about the snap.

    Rob.
