How do I permanently change colors for Putty?

I am using putty for ssh and local telnet and I want to be able to change the color of directory names (currently blue) that display when I do an ls -la.

I can change the color under Window->Colors but next time I start putty it doesnt remember my settings.

Is there a config file I can put in the putty directory to make it do this?

    HELP!!!

    Never heard of it....until now.

Is it run in a shell? What shell are you using, bash?

That's something you would have to configure in bash on the SSH server.

Any pointers on how to do it?

If I change colors using the menu on an open session of putty that works but it doesnt remember the setting.

Check out "man dircolors". It will change the directory colors for the linux system.
