okay, if this is a joke, it t'aint funny...
seriously though, good luck and God bless, sensei... hope you get as much outta life as we've gotten outta LNO.
:)
WTF.....
......W. T. F!!!!!!!!!!
i saw at f*ckedcompany.com last week internet.com was going to be cutting heads...
this sucks. plain old f*cking sucks.
sensei, i case ya can't tell you will be missed.
also posted in the off topic area...
bye Sensei, your irreplaceable leadership will be missed. Congratulations on a good run !
Be this a lesson to us all, never trust the man !!
ps - in 2-5 days, I'm going 100% slack (current !) all because of this site !!
Wow, I go away for a few hours to work out and then I come back to this? Man... what to say?
Well, Sensei, you've been a great pal (a cyber-pal, I guess, having never really met you :)), and I hope that whatever you are going to do now treats you well. If it doesn't, well call on us here and we'll come lay the smack down.
Seriously though, I think we're all really grateful for what you've started and what you've done for all of us by giving us this place to come together. I know I would probably not be where I am with Linux now if it weren't for the help I've received here over the year and a half I've been here. Hopefully the site will continue to flourish, but without you behind the wheel it's hard to say.
Do keep in touch with us every once in a while, will ya?
okay, what happened to FoBoT and Strike being HAL's? Now they just show up as grasshoppers!!
it only shows HAL in forums that we are HAL's for, sensei is/was the only mod for LNO Talkback, so we show regular hereQuote:

We lose our powers when sad times arrive (such as Sensei leaving).Quote:

Okay, so who wants to start the next Gen LNO? I don't know about you guys, but the whole not knowing how he got fired doesn't ring too true with the general ideals of Linux...maybe it's time for some of us to get together and start a NEW LNO, free from corporate pigs and the like...I realize this has been tried before, but I don't think we were in danger before...
What happens if the all-powerful internet.com (like the have a right to that name) gods decide that the LNO forums are no longer worth their money? Anybody else agree with me on this? I was about a 2 months away from starting and enterprise Linux site with njcajun awhile ago but apparently that fell apart.
Anywho, I've got a hankerin to do some designin, and I thinks it's time that the LNOers took charge of their own destinies and started something that WE control, not some cold-blooded bastard of a company. What do you guys think?

Yeah! Okay, who's brought the booze! PARTY! .. Umm, I meant a going away party? Yeah, that's it.... See what happens when you sellout! If you had never sold to internet.com in the first place.. You never woulda got paid a year for doing what you did tho, anyway the best of luck to you and whatever you do.
well, I don't know of any other sites like this (this is, IMO, the best linux site out there), but there is always #linuxhelp on irc.xchat.org for help. It's just not the same as LNO though...
We'll all miss you, Sensei. Won't be the same.
Of course, I have a feeling that if you stick around the boards you'll remain the de facto leader of LNO and we'll all just ignore as much as possible whoever else comes along.
So Sensei, you gunna stop by the official LNO channels on irc (#lno on irc.openprojects.net) and give all us hardcore fans on irc (Okay it's just me for now..) a real chance to beat on you?
No because I need to find a new job :)
Best wishes. Finally found a job that pays?
I know of one http://www.linuxquestions.org although not a populated as LNO... Back to topicQuote:

Although I don't post much, mostly just lurk, I stumbled on this site back when I first tried Linux (Linux Mandrake 6.5 whatever year that was)and it was a beautiful thing when I saw the NHF on how to set up my Soundblaster Live. So Sensei, it's sad to see you go and I hope whatever your next endeavor is I hope you have as much success as you did with LNO.

We spend all this time on your board making it what it is and you won't even let us beat on you on IRC for a few minutes!? oh comon, you can multitask! :) Besides, we got Bradmont and Mandreko there too now.Quote:

Oh, and if any other LNO'ers wanna join (with or without Sensei...) that don't have IRC figured out, there's a link on the bottom of the front page labeled "chat" which will take you to a java chat proggie that'll get you onto this channel on IRC.

Sorry to see you are leaving (even if it is involuntary)
I could not have survived Linux, without the LNO. I only hope most of the people will stay with the site.
Good luck on your new ventures, and dont forget to come and visit. :D
Cheers

Well that sucks.
I'll still be here guys. Don't worry.
Nooo! It can't beeeee!!!
Linuxnewbie.org has helped me, and countless other people, enjoy the world of linux!
Even *if* it does stay around, it won't be the same without sensei!
Thanks sensei, for everything you've done for LNO. It's the best linux newbie/help site that I've ever been to...
I guess It's time to start saving those NHF's to a local disk eh? ::sighs::
A sad, sad day...
Sensei,
I would like to sincerely thank you for creating this great place. I probably never would have gone through with switching to linux if it weren't for the volunteers here who help so many newbies become Linux users.
I personally look at computers in a whole new light-in terms of freedom. I wish you well in whatever you are going on to.
Kuber
Sensei....thanks.
This place is amazing...no matter how much a n00b I was the people here continued helping, although sometimes no one can resist a little sarcasm eh? ;)
Without this I wouldn't have been able to show up my windows using friends ;)
Sensei...you are the man  :D
Wow. This is a shock. Real life can suck. Well, good luck in whatever you find to do. If you don't find a job soon, let me know and I'll send you some arby's roasted beast samiches so you don't go hungry. (With a 1:1 ratio of sauces of course!)
All our base are belong to internet.com :(
I always thought that internet.com was just hosting your site
So what, do u work for them??
From what i have seen internet.com seems like a bunch of jerks...remember that whole thing with linuxgirl, wtf was that about ?
Anyway, it's sad to see yah go man :(
Can we say linuxsensei.com ?
I'm kinda curious to find out exactly what we would need to run a site of the caliber of LNO.
What type of servers would we need? Processor speed? I'm guessing we'd wanna run FreeBSD? Let's find out some more.
Sensei-Will we ever find out what's going on? I'd like to know some details, I know most of us would really. Although, I do wish you a lot of success at wherever you go. Just don't go tech support...you're above it! :)

I can't help thinking that this is because I didn't post enough. Maybe if I was like Strike or FoBot or even 11000 that this could have been avoided. I'm sorry everyone.
Sensei - Have a few cold ones for us and good luck.
Sorry it didn't work out Sensei. I really enjoyed talking with you, both on and offline. You were a real pal (considering I don't even know you). :)
But you know that everyone on this board would follow you where-ever you went, if you do indeed choose to open a site of your own. You could finally have the freedom to use the mySQL backend and PHP product you so desired. You should register www.LinuxSensei.com quickly...
My very best to you and LinuxGirl! I'll be starting my "dotcom" soon by the way... wanna work for me? :)
Take it easy, and never, ever, use an OS that requires you to "activate" it.
-Todd Davis
:(
I think Bill G and Microsoft had something to do with this. Oh well as R.E.M said "It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine."
hmmm maybe people need to start rounding up their LNO-friends' contact info before LNO dissappears into the ether.Quote:

May you always have what you want, or even better, may you always want what you have.
Good luck in your job search. I would have thought that you would be recruited away from LNO rather than getting the old pink slip.
Be water Sensei, be water! :(
Thank you for starting this site. From the feeling I get, it is time to make a personal archive of the NHF's.
By the way, GO GATORS!
I guess I better put my denial aside and say goodbye then.
It's really upsetting. I've been here since forever ago it seems, and Sensei was there all the while. I've had opportunity to correspond with him off the site, and he's been nothing but encouraging - true to the mission of the site at all times. The guy is a gem.
When I came here, I was lost. I had been aimlessly hacking around with Linux for 6 months, and this place dramatically improved my learning curve. Now, I'm a Linux/UNIX Systems Engineer and a 'posthumusly published' writer about Linux related 'stuff'. I would not have been able to do so much in such a short period of time without his efforts toward running this site both fairly and flawlessly.
I don't know the circumstances surrounding his leaving, but I hope that the result is that another door, previously unseen, has opened to bring you even bigger and better challenges.
...And I hope you make lotsa $$$$ doin' it, too! :)
Sad to see you go.

Arigato gozaima****a Sensie-san. Guddorakku.
</deep bow from waist>
*blinks*
That'll wipe out my grins for a bit.
Sayonara ...
All the best to you and your other half ... Hopefully the day will come when I can put a face to the alias ...
(I think I could use a decent HP/UX admin at work .... *chortle* ... )
I trust, Sensei, that you will keep us up to date in your future endevors??
