i think it would be pretty cool if we had an RSS feed that had the top 20 or so last modified threads on it.. like an RSS version of the most recent threads on the main page
just a thought :)

I think this was asked before but I can't seem to find the post, as you can guess, it wasn't possible.Quote:

i think it would be a cool thing to have to, but it would probably require writing a non-standard module, or recompiling the board software. if i remember right bproffit said that he wants to only use the standard modules and all that
Yeah, I pretty much don't want to tinker with the board code. However, with RSS feeds, since the threads are already output into plain HTML for the tables on the home page, it should be possible to send that output to an RSS file as well.
Let me ask the developers on Monday.
Thanks,
Brian
excellent :)
Is there any word on getting the RSS feed? If there was already an answer to this, sorry for being annoying. ;)
Yeah, I would be curious to know what happened with this as well. I think it sounds like a cool idea and I know I would certainly use it.
its should possible without messing with the board, just take the same code the main page uses to get its top 20(or however many) and make a new php script to do the same just output an rss feed instead.
the thing is though that they dont want to do anything non standard. if you move away from the stuff that comes with the board you move into other logictical issues
What, exactly, would the criteria of the RSS feed be? Not every thread, that would be overwhelming. Perhaps every hot thread?

i was thinking the most recent 10 threads with activity.Quote:

kind of like the 'Latest Threads' on the front page, but only the first 10 of them.
Yeah. I think just the most recently active threads would be good. You could decide on a number by looking at bandwidth load or activity to see what a good number would be. Or maybe it would be that threads are active too often and the feed would just be constantly updating. In that case maybe, refresh what threads go on the feed by the ones that are active ten minutes or less before the update.
I would think the latest threads would be the best. The "hot" threads seem to be things like "I hate MicroSoft!!1!1", "Screenshots for month X", and "What distro is best for foo?". (I'm not knocking hot threads )Quote:

I'm sure it wouldn't be that much of a problem to show the latest X_amount_of threads, or the latest 2 threads per forum.
