Yeah, I have a cluster of 4 P-133's folding...they finish a unit in about 3 days. :D
Since I don't need any more servers, folding is the best use I could think of for them...
I didn't see you on our teampage...you are folding for the right team aren't you? :D
(see my sig)

I noticed that too, perhaps it will take 30 or 40 min before the server updates the lists and makes me apart of itQuote:

As an aside, who is (possible responsible for) cs.lmu.edu??
I'm on the list now

Did you know that's the holy grail for medicine/biochemistry?
We currently don't have a ruleset that accurately predicts structure from sequence data. When that day comes, the repercussions will be huge. Thanks for folding!!

Are you a Medical Doctor, or do you work in the medical, or any biology related feild?Quote:

Good to see my name on there, I hope I am helping with the research.
I might as well get into this too :)
Right now the last thing on the screen says "Loaded queue successfully". Should I be seeing anything else with the default verbose level?
Also, how do you guys run yours? Do you leave a console window open or push it to the background? It would be nice to set this to load after a reboot if possible.
It runs in the background, started by an init script....be patient, if your cpu is maxed, it's going. I'm suprised how 'nice' it is, too. I can play Doom3 and not even feel it.
(PS - I'm a biochemistry grad student)
I just jumped in for the heck of it. Does it screw things up if I run it on 2 computers at once, or no? I'm doing that now, but I just wanted to make sure nothing will get borked.
You'll run them as separate clients with different Machine ID's.
They will both have the same username and team#, but their machine ID's will be 1 and 2. It takes up all unused cpu cycles, but releases them easily, so your performance doesn't suffer.
Remember, if you are loging in remotely, you will have to do a "nohup FAH..." so that the program doesnt terminate when you logout
OK, I'm in. I'm running the Linux console on my Athlon 800, and the XP version on my Celeron 400.

Ya'll wish you were as good as me...too bad the only people that beat me are CLUSTERS or whole computer labs (cheaters). It's all good though, its for bettering man kind....Who knows, maybe in a million years when we are all immune to cancer and such it might help someone :p
Keep laughing, Soldier Boy!
One day soon, you'll be MINE ALL MINE!!
MUUUAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAAHAHAAAAHAHAHAAA!!!
That works oh so well when accompanied by the avatar. :pQuote:

Hmm... I just went with the default settings on both computers, and it seems that both were assigned #1 (because I didn't specify otherwise... I don't think the setup questions even asked... it was the server that gave the number). Do I have to override this on one of them?Quote:

179 days to catchup before I go offline...think you can do it? Just so you know, there was a 2week gap where i was only running it on 1 machine. I'm not even using my laptop anymore. So thats 3 machines total...1 is only running part of the time.
Pathetic....truly pathetic.
While you fight over who will gain the lead, I am going to celebrate my seccond fold on computer number 2.
I only have two computers. The first fold was finished by a 233, my desktop is 1.5ghz and it just finished its first today while I was at school. It is too bad that I have to turn off the 1.5ghz to sleep!
System 1 up and running, just started so it might be a few days before the first is finished. 2.8GHz. Will start my server working when I get home. AMD k6-2 400.
[edit] System 2 up and running [/edit]
Now I'm going to fall down the ranks, oh well, at least this will (hopefully) benefit humanity some day
I talked with my brother (biology doctorate student) about this yesterday and he mentioned Novartis has an entire server cluster folding. Well, obviously they hope to create new drugs some day to boost their revenue. It's amazing how much processing power is behind this. Once I've got my boxes back home I'll join the effort - and the right team, of course. :)
I just folded my second protein, working on my third right now. :)
My Athlon/Debian box finished it's first WU tonight. It was actually being worked on in the March screenshot I posted.
Meanwhile, my meager Celeron/XP 400 is only about half done its first protein (despite a generous head start...LOL). :) But at least it's doing something useful now.

don`t feel bad, look at poor DimGR. At least you got a couple of points.Quote:

How do you complete a Work Unit, but not get any points for it?Quote:

I don`t know, but it says
Total score 0
Overall rank (if points are combined) 433062 of 433062
I suppose that means, no negative scores are possible.
I'm going down in rank nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Whoops, my bad.
;)
#1 done in just over 2.5 days.
Look for a file called client.cfg. As long as this is different on each of your machines you're good to go. Assuming you're not clustering anyway.Quote:

I guess this thread explains our jump in members! Good stuff. We're in a close close battle with Colorado Tech. They said your computers all suck! You're not gonna let em get away with that are you?!
Another neat place to watch your stats is here: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...php?s=&t=36480
I just went to join up with a machine at work but it does not seem to be conencting or getting packets. Keep getting the message "could not connect to assignment server". If I can get this machine connecting, I only use it 2 days a week and can leave it running 24/7.
hmmm. intresting a reason to set up some clusters for once, if my old hardware still works i'll join in with some power.
Ooh, nice find! I've got a new bookmark for checking my FaH stats.Quote:

Well, since I had a couple more lazy computers just sitting around, I decided to sign them up, too. One will be only part-time, with the screen saver.
1 - Mac G3/333, 768MB RAM (OSX 10.2.1) (screen saver)
2 - Celeron/400, 256 MB RAM (Win XP)
3 - Athlon/800, 512MB RAM (Debian Sarge)
4 - K6-II/500, 256MB RAM (Debian Sarge)
It's inspiring to see so many of us get on board at once. Hopefully we can climb the ranks.
- T.
P.S. Don't hate the non-Linux boxes. They're still pulling for the team (...just not as hard!).
I think that we areQuote:

I know we are. when i joined, we were at like...1500, now we're at 320 (team rank) and have grown from 10 members to 40 members. Not bad at all.Quote:

There is some inconsistancy with the rankings of folding@home, and the rankings listed on extremeoverclocking.com.
According to extremeoverclocking we are 320, and according to FAH we are 325. Either way we are doing fairly well
