Another more specialized linux based recovery CD to try is Trinity Rescue Kit. Aside from the normal linux utilities it includes anti-virus scanners, raw data recovery tools, and expanded ntfs related tools. I have found it to be incredibly useful when I had an NTFS partition corrupt itself beyond readability.
