Hmm, great. When I get home (at work right now) I'll post a snippet of the console output and maybe that'll give someone else a clue as to what might be happening.
There is a thread on the folding forums talking about this too. I think it turned out to be a network problem for the other guy, it was for me too. I rebooted my Gentoo box and it lost the route for some reason. It never lost it before. < shrugs > May want to check and make sure everything works on the network, just to be sure.
I have been known to stop it then restart it and have it work like a charm. I'm on dial-up and I don't like to stay online for long periods of time so it either has to hurry or miss the boat. Mine will send in what it finished and want to wait a while before getting a new one. I get impatient.

edit: My typing sucks OK. It's in my sig. Don't bug me about it. :p
I don't think it's a network problem for me. I can still access the web and my e-mail just fine. I will try taking a look in the folding forums and see if I can find any clues. Thanks.
I am still having trouble getting my home machine folding. I have tried both the 5.02 and 5.04beta versions of the clients. I will attach my FAHlog file in hopes that someone can provide some insight. Also another interesting thing, FAH used to work when I had Mandriva installed at home, but with Ubuntu 5.10 it doesn't.
I found someone with the same error message here: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archiv...p/t-18393.html
Basically make sure that in your client.cfg under http you have active=no. Apparently that's a setting for proxy connections that will give the error message you're seeing if you're not actually on a proxy.
Thanks for the suggestion my config file looks like this:
I've done some searches on the Ubuntu forums and the Folding forums with no luck so far. I double-checked and I don't have a firewall running in Ubuntu so I'm still looking for more suggestions. Thanks. :)Code:[settings]
username=JayMan8081
team=36480
asknet=no
machineid=1
[http]
active=no
host=localhost
port=8080
It must be something else then...my /opt/foldingathome/client1/client.cfg is:
[settings]
username=je_fro
team=36480
asknet=no
bigpackets=yes
machineid=1
local=67
[http]
active=no
host=localhost
port=8080
[core]
checkpoint=10
Well for now I found a temporary fix. I found a link from the Folding forums to a site where I could manually download the cores. This works and the first WU finished yesterday and it had no problems submitting the results. So I guess for now I will just continue to download the cores by hand.
Hey, guys, you've gotten me folding, too (and yes, I'm on the justlinux team, lol).
Hooray!
Welcome aboard! :D
I finally figured out why my FAH clients could not dowload wu. It was because I had set my router to block some websites and apparently it was also blocking FAH from requesting and downloading new working units. So all is better now and I have a new machine doing folding now! :)
Does anyone here use the advmethods flag along with allowing BigWUs? What effect does it have on your PC? Is it still useable for other tasks while folding? For example can you still do development, compiling, and web surfing? I am thinking about using both those options but I still need to be able to do C++ development while folding runs in the background. Thanks!
Not sure about the advmethods flag but FAH is configured with a nice level that it backs off considerably if the proc is required for something else. There are occasions where this does not occur but I haven't had any problems with daily usage and folding. I forget it's running most of the time.Quote:

I run Gentoo, which compiles everything from source that exists and I can't tell it is running at all. I have four compters running folding and it works fine.
