Read the folding log, but I'm sure they aren't.
The servers only hand out each work unit once, until it either comes back completed or the time limit (usually a few weeks) has expired.
Yay me!
That was my desktop (athlon xp2800+). My old 750MHz deron should get done with its first unit sometime today.
Question for Happybunny, Dkeav, etc about the physical number of pc's you are running for Folding. I consider myself something of a geek, but 16 pc's etc that other .edu I can see if someone has a study lab or something, but in your house/apartment whatever, you actually are running 16 (Dkeav and Happy)?? WOW, I have my 2 win boxes at work running it and 2 of many at home, but trying to keep the electric bill to a reasonable amount. I could possibly bring a total of 8 more pc's/laptops to the job but I would go broke.
Do you guys have permission at work/school to use a lab or something? Just curiousity. :)
edit: I am not doing badly with my 4: (Bubba56 on team also), but crap... 16 pc's WOWZER

3 of mine are at my/brothers computer shop on other side of the state, one is dual proc (1.8ghz) server, 3 in my apartment server/router box, amd64 3400+ box, thinkpad t42 laptop, and my office computers at work are running it. secretly i have a few armies (labs) laying in wait though if things get desperate MUHAHAHAHHAHA :)
when all my machines at home are on, there are about 9 cpu's running. It gets pretty warm in here when I am running them all tho.
Plus 3 desktops at work, a 4cpu server, and I had about 10 Virtual CPUs' going at one time which is what put me in 3rd place.
OK, I've added my lowly PIII 500MHz file server. I might get one folded by next year some time...
That's not much worse than my AMD 800MHz with 128Mbs of ram. It takes it a few days of 24/7 running but it does get there, eventually.
I have noticed that it assignes bigger thingys to my faster rig and smaller thingys to my slower one. I guess it balances out the load or something.
Patience, patience, and then more patience.
:D :D :D :D
Actually it's much worse! (Intel vs. AMD)
Anyway, it's also a 24/7 machine, so this will give it something to do while it's loafing around at night.
I have never had a Intel rig before. Too much money and not enough bang.Quote:

I do think that they take into account how fast your rig is and how much it runs, uptime. I got smaller ones at first then they started getting bigger, especially on my fast rig. I pretty much run both 24/7 though. My rig in the sig had a uptime of 240 days until hurricane Dennis came through and put out my lights. My UPS can't last 9 hours. :( Sort of ticked me off too!!! My generator wouldn't start either. Still doesn't either. I'm not sure what is wrong yet. I need to work on it.
I wish Bell South would get me DSL.

Check out getting a 12v DC to 110v A/C power inverter. Then when the next hurricane comes, you can run an extension cord to your car!
I only buy AMD, the Intels that I have were free.
I can't figure out why anyone who builds their own computer would buy Intel anymore since AMD has pretty thoroughly trounced them in all but a couple of performance areas. Intel's dual cores are cheaper, but I don't expect AMD to let that stand for too long. And those power inverters are pretty cool. Plug almost anything into your car lighter without needing any other special adapters.
Oh, and to keep this post slightly on topic I had a PIII 400 that took about a month to finish its first work unit (a little longer in fact, IIRC). I don't know why but it got a gigantic work unit right off the bat. Of course, it was painfully slow on top of that.
All of a sudden my really quiet PC isn't so quiet anymore! The cpu fan is in overdrive! I'll have to install lm_sensors and see what temp the proc is running at...
Well, I can't run my freezers, I have two, my fridge, my computers and all that off one of those inverters. I wouldn't run my freezers and fridge off one anyway because they are not good for the compressors. I paid over $1600.00 for my fridge. I'm not taking a chance on that thing for sure.
I do have a really good battery in my car but I wouldn't want to run my car while running all that off the battery either. That would be a pretty good load.
I think I'll fix my generator. With the price of gas going up, it will be much cheaper to run for sure. $2.35 a gallon for the cheap stuff. We need to vote out the government, all of the rats. None of them, left or right are doing what needs doing. They ALL suck. We need a new bunch. Put them back at $20,000 a year so they can learn how some of the rest of us live. I barely have half that myself.
Back to folding related stuff, My rig has been running at 100% since this morning. My temps are 88F and 71F, with 88 for the CPU and 71 for the room. Why does everybody else run so hot? Mine never goes above 100F unless I leave the A/C turned off a while.

Its been a while since someone brought this up again, and I just noticed cs.lmu.edu has added some WU's....nice to see they are back online again!
