I've installed 2.6.3 kernel on Knoppix 3.3 box.

First, could not boot in 2.6.3 kernel, so I did the following:

root at xanadu:/boot# mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd.2.6.3.gz
/usr/src/linux.2.6.3#...

What do you mean create the initrd for 2.6 Kernel?

I'm not even sure what initrd is or does?

I've looked around my Knoppix box and cant find it, except some sort of .gz file under /boot

I've installed 2.6.3 kernel under /usr/src.

Seemed to install ok, didn't get any error messages.

Checked under /boot and see that it is there and added the following...

I tried to use .shn files with XMMS.

I have installed this plugin . Install went ok and I can see the files with XMMS, but cannot play them.

What am I doing wrong?

Setting the colors works, but how do I set it from ~/.fluxbox/menu so that the shell starts up as bash?

Ok.

I insatlled the alsa tgz that came with the Slackware cdrom that I burned.

I used installpgk alsa and then tried to run alsaconfig and alsamixer and nothing.

I have no idea what I am...

But where are the ALSA tgz files?

I can't find them on any of these sites?

Can someone provide me a URL for a Slackware FPT site. I'm not sure if I need to download from there or just look and see what packages are needed to get.
