Don't mean to sound like a smart A$$ but up grade to mandrake 9.0 or 9.1 KDE comes all set up :D

If you already have mandrake 9.0 I would sujust that you install it if you have a /home partition don't format it and you can save almost all your prefferences. :D if you still have the problem...
